As state budget stalemate continues, CCC presents priorities

Here are the state budget concerns from the California Catholic Conference -- a pretty good run-down of how the Assembly version of the budget will affect social services. A couple things to note, however:
1. SSI/SSP recipients did receive a COLA last year (and I hope they will receive one this year too.)
2. The plan to streamline food stamps that was deleted from the Assembly Budget would have made it easier for Food Stamp recipients to be kicked off of the program because of small changes in income that may occur on a month-to-month basis. Assemblymember Laird's legislative approach to streamlining the Food Stamp program's recertification reporting process would actually make it easier for current Food Stamp recipients to stay on the program.
